18 people have died and 150 more have been hospitalized after drinking contaminated water in Pakistan. Thirty people are also said to be in critical condition.

Abdur Rahim, a doctor at the local Civil Hospital says the deaths occurred over the past two days. Water samples have been sent to a lab to find the cause of the contamination.

The incident took place in the district of Zhob, northeast of Quetta.

The victims have been admitted to the hospital with diarrhea, vomiting, and severe stomachaches.

Six children between the ages of 7 and 12 and five women are among the dead.

Preliminary reports indicate the water became contaminated in the towns of Sambaza, Sherani, and Kakar Khurasan where villagers mainly use rainwater, stored in outdoor ponds, for drinking and washing.
