| The Health Ministry in South Africa is recalling millions of locally manufactured condoms after many of them failed an air burst test. The news is yet another blow to government's campaign to prevent the spread of AIDS and unwanted pregnancies. Tuesday's recall involves condoms distributed free by the government through Kohrs Medical with the code 6809/MED/ | | Durex is seeking candidates in Canada to test condoms. The company says this is one job that workers will like to take take home with them specifically straight to the bedroom. Condoms have long been available at school health centers but it took a recent spike in the number of pregnancies to persuade school officials that it was time to offer the pill to girls as young as 11 in hopes of curbing unwanted pregnancies. Although there are no figures on how many middle schools in America offer contraception to girls aged 11 to 13, one health official called it a rare situation | | In response to a startling rise in sexual activity among middle school students, education officials in Portland have decided to begin distributing birth control pills at a middle school health center to girls as young as 11. King Middle School, which already provides its students with condoms, intends to become the first middle school in Maine to make a full range of contraception available, including birth control pills and patches | | The United Nations High Commissioner For Refugees (UNHCR) has launched a six-month project to strengthen HIV and AIDS services among the conflict-affected people in Nepal. The project funded by the Department for International Development (DFID), channelled through UNAIDS will be implemented by the General Welfare Pratisthan (GWP), Knight Chess Club (KCC), and Maiti Nepal in six districts - Ilam and Panchthar in the eastern region, and Dang, Jumla, Banke and Jakarkot in the mid-western region, a press statement said | |
