| Most Indian men want virgin brides but have also had sex with prostitutes. A poll found that while the age Indian men are having sex is falling, they still carry conservative views on marriage. More than 2,500 men between ages 16 and 24 in 11 cities were surveyed by Today magazine. Sixty-three percent expect their wives to be virgins, 49 percent have had sex with prostitutes and 37 percent have had a homosexual experience. The poll also found that condom use has increased in the last two years | | In a review of more than 250 studies on sexual behavior in people under 25, researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine discovered that it was social and cultural factors and not any sort of ignorance or unavailability that influenced the use of condoms by young people. The 14-year study showed that young people assess a potential partner's disease risk, and the need for a condom, by their appearance and extent of social interaction | | Former U.S. surgeon generals Joycelyn Elders and David Satcher revealed during a San Francisco news conference on Thursday that efforts to promote abstinence in U.S. sexual education aren't working. The two said that the rates of sexually transmitted diseases, unplanned pregnancies and sexual abuse are not been decreasing. Elders, who President Clinton fired after she suggested that children be taught about masturbation, told reporters, "The vows of abstinence break far more easily than latex condoms | | A report to be published next month by the U.K. based Institute for Public Policy Research says Britain has the highest rate of teenaged pregnancy in Europe and the young people there are the third least likely to use condoms while having intercourse. It recommends teaching contraception in the final year of primary school, which means children 10 to 11 years of age. They say education is the best way to tackle the problem | | A report released by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) on Monday says British teenagers are the most sexually active in Europe. The report called on authorities to introduce sexual education among teens to avoid teenage pregnancies. According to the report, 38 percent of British 15-year-olds had sex in the period from 2001-2002. The rate was relatively high when compared with 15 percent in Poland, 16 percent in Spain.
