A retired doctor takes her own life with the help of doctors at a Swiss clinic.

Dr. Anne Turner had a progressive, incurable degenerative disease known as supranuclear palsy, the same disease that afflicted late comedian Dudley Moore.

She made her way to the Dignitas clinic in Zurich, where she was given drugs with which to end her life. Towards the end of her life, she could only walk with a cane and faced using a wheelchair in the future.

Her condition had left her with slurred speech and difficulty swallowing. She could not drive, take a bath without help, or properly feed her cats.

Opponents of assisted suicide say it is wrong to take human life in this way, arguing good quality palliative care was the right approach.

Turner had already attempted suicide last October, using sleeping pills, anti-depressants and a plastic bag.

Following this failed suicide attempt, her children accepted her decision to make her way to Switzerland while it was still physically possible for her to do so.
