The California-based biotechnology company issued the recall as a precaution after reports of a higher rate of adverse reactions when compared to other vaccines. These include fever, allergic reactions and glandular swelling.
Chiron says patients reacted right after inoculation, adding the adverse effects do not indicate any long-term risk.
About five million doses of the vaccine were distributed to developing countries and about 450,000 doses were distributed in Italy.
Other Chiron vaccines are not affected by the recall.
