Over 5,000 health inspectors from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine were sent by China's central government to different dairies to check their health standards. Their deployment was in response to the death of four Chinese babies, the illness of 53,000 milk drinkers and its negative effect on the country's exports.

Following the international scare of discovering melamine in Chinese dairy products, dozens of countries withdrew the milk products made with Chinese milk from store shelves. It results to the arrest of 30 people and the discovery of 400 new ailments linked to melamine-tainted milk.

As a result of the chaos created by the milk scare, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao had an executive meeting Monday with the State Council to discuss ways to improve quality control in manufacturing dairy products.

The new rules require stricter and more detailed regulations on animal husbandry, fresh milk collection, dairy production, domestic sales and import and export of dairy items.
