Changzhou SPL, the supplier of blood thinner was not checked by China's drug regulators. Since the plant has no certification, the United States Food and Drug Administration said that they never inspected the factory in China either.

This factory may be the origin of Baxter international blood thinner, heparin that has lead to four deaths and hundreds of allergic reactions.

FDA has allowed heparin that was in the midst of shipping to be delivered because they worry that a total recall may result in a shortage of the drug. They suggested that doctors give steroids or antihistamines along with heparin to prevent the possibility of allergic reactions.

Heparin is made from pig intestines. Baxter accounts for almost half the supply of heparin in the U.S., which is used for dialysis patients and for surgical uses. It was yet to determine whether the Chinese plant had been the source of this problem.
