According to a recent study, conducted by a researcher from Israel, the frequent use of cell phones for a long time may cause mouth cancer. The results brought forth by earlier studies in regard to the usage of cell phones and its detrimental effects on the users were rendered inconsistent. At the same time few scientists had found a relation between cancer and excess use of cell phones, while some had rejected the claim altogether.

A team of international scientists, headed by Dr. Siegal Sadetzki from the Chaim Sheba Medical Centre in Tel Hashomer in Israel, discovered that frequent use of cell phones increases the risk of people being affected by malignant mouth tumors.

The researchers, ahead of revealing this study, noticed the lifestyles of 402 people with benign mouth tumors and 56 with malignant ones. They then were likened to a control group of 1,266 people. The research revealed that five years of constant usage of mobile phone raised the risk of generating a tumor in the mouth by almost 50% likened with those who had never used mobiles. While those who used cell phones frequently were more than normal to generate parotid gland tumors, reported by the online edition of the Daily Mail.

According to the researchers, the parotid, located before the ear, is the largest of the salivary glands. Frequent and Long-term users of cell phones are mostly prone to generate tumors on the similar side of the head where the phone was generally held.

Users, using cell phones in rural areas, were noticed with greater chances of being afflicted by the mouth cancer, however the reason for this increased risk was not confirmed.
