The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention are guaranteeing the availability of as many as 97 million influenza shots in the U.S. market this upcoming flu season.

According to the CDC, along with the addition of GlaxoSmithKline, there are four companies providing vaccines to the United States.

The CDC does warn, "However, because of the uncertainties regarding production of influenza vaccine, the exact number of available doses and timing of vaccine distribution for the 2005-06 influenza season remain unknown."

The CDC says the first people to get vaccinated should be children aged 6 months to 23 months, pregnant women, health care personnel who provide direct patient care, household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of infants under the age of 6 months.

"Beginning October 24, 2005, all persons will be eligible for vaccination," the CDC says in a statement.
