A new study has found that cats also suffer from a form of Alzheimer's disease.

Research from St. Andrews Research has revealed that cats suffer from a feline version of dementia that produces a similar build-up of proteins in the brain as human Alzheimer's patients.

The discovery will help scientists understand the minute changes the brain undergoes with the disease.

According to the Times Online, Danielle Gunn-Moore, an animal expert, and her husband, Frank, who studies human Alzheimer's at the University of St. Andrews, began the study when their pet tabby, Cardhu, fell ill. Cats have long been known to suffer dementia, but the link with Alzheimer's was not known.
