Botulinum toxin, or Botox, can be used not just to stop wrinkles, but to stop sweating as well. An injection of the poison can cut off the nerves to the sweat glands.
The Harley Medical Group said that since May, demands for the anti-sweat injections have tripled. It became sopopular that people have started calling it 'Sweatox.'
A small dose is good for six months and costs around 550 pounds ($1,066) for every affected area.
A person can have their palms, soles of the feet, chest or underarms injected. Some patients report, however, that their perspiration increases in other parts of their bodies.
Botox is one of the most effective treatments for stopping profuse sweating and lasts a long time, according to Dr. Nicky Naylor from the group.
Requests for the treatment are not limited to people who have hyperhydrosis, a condition where one sweats excessively. People who get sweaty when they are nervous during social functions, even on first dates, have also had their injections.
The anti-sweat treatment is now the second most popular treatment, following laser hair removal. It makes up 31 percent of all the botox procedures at the medical facility.
