The initiative hopes to save the lives of five million children and as many adults as possible. Along with Britain, France, Italy, Spain and Sweden are also sponsoring the program.
Britain has pledged $130 million a year and France $100 million. Italy has promised $30 million while Sweden and Spain have pledged $27 million and $12 million, respectively.
According to The Associated Press, the International Finance Facility for Immunization will provide financial support for vaccinations against killer diseases such as hepatitis B, measles, diphtheria, yellow fever and HIB (haemophilus influenza type B), polio and tetanus.
