Shorter, High Dosage Radiation Therapy More Effective In Breast Cancer

A three week course of high intensity radiation therapy for some breast cancer patients is just as beneficial as a longer seven to eight week period of treatments, according to a Canadian study.

A team of Canadian researchers, led by Dr. Tim Whelan of McMaster University in Toronto, treated 1,200 women with either the accelerated three-week dose of radiation or the standard five-week therapy. The patients were then tracked for recurrences for up to 12 years
