Ryzhov Nikita Andreevich and his mother, Kychuk Natal'ja Yur'evna, left the Sapporo Medical University Hospital in Sapporo on Friday. Staff of the hospital applauded the two, who are from Kunashiri Island, and gave them gifts before they left, the Mainichi Daily News reported.
According to Japan Today news, the 29-year-old mother thanked the hospital officials and staff, who treated for the first time a burn patient from Kunashiri, one of the four islands of the disputed Northern Territories.
The boy suffered serious burns in his hands and other parts of his body in October. He was rushed to the Hokkaido city of Nemuro for emergency treatment before being transferred to the Sapporo hospital.
Japan refers to the Northern Territories as Kuril Islands. The islands were taken over by the then Soviet Union after Japan's World War II defeat in 1945.
