The Indonesian Health Ministry reported another human bird flu death on Wednesday, confirming that a 23-year-old woman died on Sunday almost immediately upon arriving to the hospital.

The country's death toll is mounting, as 72 people have now died from the H5N1 virus in Indonesia.

Indonesia is one of the country's most severely hit with the H5N1 virus, and it has become one of the frontlines in the fight against the disease.

Worldwide, the bird flu has killed at least 170 people since it began in the Asian poultry stocks in 2003, according to the World Health Organization.

Although fear remains that the virus may mutate into a form that could be easily spread from human to human into a pandemic killing millions, so far the virus is not easily passed on to people. So far, the human bird flu cases seem to be caused by contact with the sick birds.
