Indonesia has reported the most bird flu deaths this year.
Vietnam has also been similarly plagued but has controlled the situation with no death has taking place since the start of 2006.
The victim was from Bekasi located at the outskirts of Jakarta. Health officials said that the boy had been exposed to infected chickens prior to getting sick.
The bird flu is spread to humans through contact with diseased poultry. The country has been attacked for not taking a more aggressive stand by rejecting large populations of fowl.
The government maintains that it is not necessary to conduct widespread culling of poultry. The disease now is endemic proportions across the country.
The government also cites lack of funds to compensate farmers. It has petitioned for some $900m to deal with the virus in the next three years.
