Hurricane Katrina didn't bring destruction and damage to everyone in South Florida. According to Broward General Medical Center CEO, Joe Scott, seven babies were born Thursday and at least 13 more women were in labor.

At least 20 women arrived in labor throughout the day, and eight women near their due dates came to the hospital as a precaution ahead of the storm.

Area hospitals were much more prepared during Katrina, learning from the several storms that came before it.

Says Maria Soldani, spokeswoman for Holy Cross Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, "We learned so much from Andrew. We went on generator power this afternoon so we wouldn't have to recalibrate our equipment."

Holy Cross also made room for its employees' families, who weathered the storm in the lobby watching movies and eating popcorn.
