A study claims that there might be a correlation between intellectual couples and autistic children.

Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, of the University of Cambridge, believes that genes which make some analytical may also impair their social and communication skills.

In a paper published in the journal Archives of Disease of Childhood, and featured in a BBC report, Professor Baron-Cohen labels people such as scientists, mathematicians and engineers as 'systemizers'.

The report states that the analytical are very gifted at working out problems but they also tend to be less interested in the social side of life, and can exhibit behavior such as an obsession with detail - classic traits associated with autism.
