The company says that its "Virion" compound can open a new treatment for AIDS patients.
Chief executive Michelle Miller says their treatment prevents infectious viruses from coming outside of the cells.
"The significance of this latest result is that we have actually been able to demonstrate that the virus works against strains of HIV that have multiple drug resistants," says Miller. "So these are strains of HIV that can't be treated with existing drugs."
Final safety studies are being carried out on the drug. Biotron expects to begin "proof of concept" trials by the end of this year, which are prerequisite to gain regulatory approval. Biotron also has plans to associate with a major pharmaceutical by next year.
