Anthrax Attacker's Identity Bolsters Widow's $50 Million Suit Against Feds

The widow of one of the victims of the anthrax attacks in 2001 bolstered her $50 million lawsuit against the government Thursday as the attacker was a federal employee working under alleged lax security.

"It is now time for the United States of America to own up to its responsibility to my family and to right this wrong that resulted in the loss of my beloved husband and my children's beloved father," Maureen Stevens said in a press conference at her office here, according to BBC News

Anthrax Hits Cattle At Canadian Province Farms

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has confirmed two cases of cattle deaths from anthrax this week in separate farms in Saskatchewan province. The disease poses no risk to humans.

Seven bison in a herd in Paddockwood north of Prince Albert and a cow near Saskatoon tested positive of the disease. The CFIA has quarantined the affected areas to prevent the spread of the disease

Lupus Medication Being Tested As Treatment For Multiple Sclerosis

A Maryland pharmaceutical firm is testing a lupus drug, LymphoStat-B, to treat multiple sclerosis. The medication stops a protein found in high levels in MS lesions, which contribute to the production of cells that go against the body and instead attack healthy tissue.

Human Genome Sciences has partnered with GlaxosmithKline in testing LymphoStat-B to find a cure for MS, one of four autoimmune ailments that the two firms want to find a remedy

Defense Department Employees To Appeal Anthrax Vaccination Policy

After the lawsuit against Pentagon's Vaccination Policy was dismissed Friday, employees of Defense Department said that they will appeal the suit. Service members claims that the government forced them to undergo unproven and inefficient anthrax vaccination, said Mark Zaid, their attorney.

Indonesia Quarantines Remote Island To Contain Skin Anthrax Outbreak

Indonesian doctors are treating at least 10 villagers infected with skin anthrax while veterinarians are vaccinating livestock in areas around a remote island village hit by an outbreak of the fatal disease last week. The Jakarta Post also reported on Wednesday that authorities prohibited the movement of livestock in villages in Flores island to prevent anthrax from spreading.
