Recent news of health risks linking conventional prescription hormone medications in the form of estrogen and progestin supplements have some women seeking alternative therapies.
Suzanne Somers national best seller's book, "Ageless: The Naked Truth About Bioidentical Hormones," prompts women to seek these alternative methods for menopause.
According to Somers' book, these "bioidentical hormones" will not only help menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, but claims that they will also reverse aging, help mental status, and aid in physical fitness and sexual activity.
The North American Menopause Society (NAMS) is a nonprofit scientific organization formed to promote women's health and quality of life by helping women understand the processes of menopause. The NAMS also does not endorse nor recommend these types of hormone products versus the use FDA-approved products for most women.
