Nearly 2 Million ER Visits Were Drug-Related

Data released Wednesday shows that nearly 2 million visits to the emergency room in 2004 were drug-related.

The Drug Abuse Warning Network (DAWN) reports that nearly 1.3 million of those visits involved drug or alcohol abuse. It also found that 30 percent of those visits involved only illicit drugs, while 25 percent were a result of prescription or over-the counter medications
