Little Rock Family Planning clinic director Dr. Jerry Edwards is performing free abortions, for Hurricane victims. Edwards worries that waiting until it is safe to go home and have the procedure done will put the expecting mothers at risk.

Edwards tells KTHV-TV in Little Rock, "If we didn't provide it now, they would get it later -- a late-term abortion that would give greater risk to the mother's health."

Marvin Schwartz, spokesman for Arkansas-Oklahoma Planned Parenthood, says Edwards is providing women with a needed service.

He says, "The timing of the abortion procedure is, of course, extremely critical. The earlier in the pregnancy, the less critical it is."
