Connor McCreaddie, 8, weighs 218 pounds, which is more than three times the average weight for his age. His mother spoke out against authorities who are discussing taking custody of the boy.
His mother, Nicola McKeown, said, "The worst case would be Connor getting taken into care. He is well cared for."
Social service officials will meet with family members on Tuesday to discuss what is best for the child. Social workers have been working with the family for some time now, according to reports.
The boy's situation was brought to the authority's attention when McKeown allowed a television crew to film his daily life, which showed the child hiding and stealing food. It also showed the difficulties he had bathing and regularly attending school because of health problems.
Health officials are also speaking out about the child's health. Director of the National Obesity Forum in Nottingham, England Dr. Colin Waine said Connor is at risk of developing diabetes in his teens, cardiovascular and nervous system problems in his twenties, and death by 30.
Connor told television station ITV, "People pick on us because of my weight. They call us fat. It makes us feel sick of the nutters always shouting at us."
