According to news.com.au, Eliana Ramos previously said of her sister Luisel's death, "It is madness to say she was anorexic" and denied that she starved herself.
Police said Eliana's "primary diagnosis is death due to symptoms of malnutrition."
A minimum body mass index was set for models appearing in Madrid and Milan fashion shows to discourage eating disorders after other model deaths were reported, most recently in Brazil in November.
Eliana's BMI several months ago was just over the minimum of 18 that was set by the fashion industry in Brazil, but she recently seemed to be losing weight rapidly.
However, it was not clear if she lost the weight intentionally or to benefit her career.
Pancho Dotto, Eliana's boss, said, according thisislondon.co.uk, "It is absurd that people are speaking about anorexia or bulimia in this tragic case.
"She had never had problems with her diet. It is obvious the sisters' deaths must be due to a genetic problem."
The sisters' family, however, said Luisel was "under much pressure and stress" before she died because she had been told she could "make it big" if she lost a "significant" amount of weight.
The grandmother of the sisters, who discovered Eliana's body, said, "This has happened to me twice. The girl would not wake up. I went into the house and saw her eyes blank and her knees tucked up."
