The Associated Press reports Jacob Gibbs had OTC-deficiency, which is fatal in males.
In utero tests on his mother, Keeley, confirmed the fetus had the disorder. Doctors had warned Keeley that she and her son could die, but she wouldn't consider aborting the fetus.
Officials say Jacob may be the youngest child to ever undergo a liver transplant in the U.S. He received the new liver in January.
Now, three months later, the infant is doing well.
The father, Brian Gibbs, says, "Everything happens for a reason."
